Release Date 

The wait is finally over—Gearbox has officially announced that Borderlands 4 will launch on September 23, 2025! The latest trailer not only gave us a look at new gameplay and characters but also ended with the highly anticipated release date.

Interestingly, this puts Borderlands 4 ahead of GTA VI, which is expected to drop in late 2025. This strategic timing could give the game room to shine before Rockstar’s massive release dominates the gaming world.

What We Know So Far 

• New Characters: As with every new Borderlands game, Borderlands 4 introduces a fresh cast of Vault Hunters. While Gearbox has kept details under wraps, the trailer teased their unique abilities and playstyles. Expect a mix of familiar archetypes and brand-new twists.

• New Mechanics: The Borderlands series is known for its fast-paced, loot-driven gameplay, and Borderlands 4 looks to be expanding on that formula. While we don’t have all the specifics yet, the trailer showcased new movement mechanics, updated gunplay, and even more chaotic combat.

• Skill Trees: Customization has always been a huge part of Borderlands, and Borderlands 4 seems to be taking it a step further. The skill trees appear deeper and more flexible, possibly allowing players to mix and match abilities in new ways.
“Borderlands 4 features the deepest and most diverse skill trees of any Borderlands title yet.” The goal behind that is to give players “an unprecedented level of expression through their builds.” says senior project producer Anthony Nicholson.
