The grog nozzle

The Grog Nozzle is a Unique Maliwan pistol that people get for its healing and slagging capabilities rather than its firepower.

Getting the Grog Nozzle is surprisingly easy and requires zero grinding, so let’s break down why it’s a staple in nearly every build.

What Makes the GROG NOZZLE Strong

The Grog Nozzle is technically a weak weapon due to its pitiful damage rating and slow fire rate. What makes it deceptively powerful is its high chance to apply slag and its strong lifesteal abilities.

The gun also has a relatively small chance of giving your character the “Drunk” effect. This messes with your accuracy and decreases your fire rate, but in exchange, you’ll have +5 projectiles for the next few seconds. It’s a double-edged blade that usually leans more towards being useful than not.

TIPS

  • Whenever possible, aim at large clumps of enemies to maximize your slag and lifesteal effects
  • Stick close to your targets so you can take full advantage of the Drunk effect’s bonus projectiles, as the increased spread will make it less precise from longer ranges
  • Always whip it out whenever your health is too low, as its healing is insanely good

Advantages

  • Effective slagging weapon for higher difficulty content
  • Incredible healing abilities
  • Easy to obtain, without any RNG involved

Disadvantages

  • Usually requires you to get up close and personal to enemies
  • Very low damage, making it an ineffective primary weapon
  • Slow fire rate, especially while drunk

How to Get the GROG NOZZLE

In order to get the Grog Nozzle, you have to progress through the Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep DLC until you gain access to the quest “The Beard Makes The Man”.

This quest is given by Claptrap in the Mines of Avarice. Once you start it, you’re given the Grog Nozzle for free, as you’ll need to use it on some drunk dwarves.

Once Claptrap gives you the Grog Nozzle, forget about the side quest.  With the Grog Nozzle in your inventory, you can keep it forever as long as you never complete Claptrap’s quest. It even scales to your level whenever you load into the game!

Keep in mind that this weapon won’t carry over to other difficulty levels, as it’s a quest item. If you start a TVHM or UVHM run, you’ll have to progress through the DLC again until you gain access to the Grog Nozzle once more.

Best Prefix for the Grog nozzle

Because the Grog Nozzle is a quest item, that means each time you’ll reload the game, you’ll have a different Grog Nozzle prefix!

So the prefix doesn’t actually matter for the Grog Nozzle, as the main point of the weapon is that it’s only used for utility rather than damage. Even an Evisceration Grog Nozzle isn’t worth the effort to reroll for melee builds, because you’d need to keep reloading the game until you get it for that session.

Best Builds for the GROG NOZZLE

Similarly, there isn’t really a build where the Grog Nozzle excels in, as it’s a universal fit for all builds. This is especially true for Salvador, who can benefit from the Grog Nozzle while using another weapon through his Gunzerking ability. See the Salvador Build for more information.

Aside from that, you can always reserve a weapon equip slot for the Grog Nozzle on pretty much any build under the sun. If you have issues with survivability or want some extra insurance while you’re out grinding tougher content, bring one of these with you and you’re set for life.

When the GROG NOZZLE is NOT Ideal

The only time the Grog Nozzle is a bad pick is for very specific low health builds, which mostly just applies to Krieg. Outside of that, it’s pretty much always useful, especially as you start grinding to OP10. 

Compared to other Weapons

Grog Nozzle vs Rubi

While both of these pistols can be used for healing, the Grog Nozzle’s lifesteal (65%) is vastly superior to the Rubi (12%). It can also consistently apply slag, which will be incredibly helpful during harder content. Finally, the Grog Nozzle will level up with you, making it useful even during the endgame grinds.

Grog Nozzle vs Other Moxxi Guns

The Rubi and Grog Nozzle are the best Moxxi weapons when it comes to healing. While all the others, like the Good Touch, Bad Touch, Crit, Kitten, etc. give some okay lifesteal bonuses (usually 2-5%), none of them are remotely as good as the Grog Nozzle if we’re talking about pure healing potency and slag application.
