The BADABOOM

The Badaboom is a Legendary Bandit rocket launcher that fires multiple rockets per shot without consuming extra ammo, making it an extremely efficient boss buster and rocket jumping tool.

For how favored it is in a lot of playstyles, the weapon is surprisingly easy to farm for as it comes from a base game enemy. With that said, let’s first go over exactly why it’s so good.

What Makes the BADABOOM Strong

The Badaboom can shoot six projectiles at the cost of a single rocket ammo, with the only real downside being that it has slightly reduced accuracy. Its ridiculously high base damage makes it a great tool for instant second winds or quick farming runs against enemies that don’t resist explosions.

For speedrunners, it’s also really good for rocket jumping. You can very quickly build up a lot of momentum by repeatedly firing it at your feet, and you can tank the hits by wearing a good absorb shield, like The Sham.

TIPS

  • Stay relatively close to enemies when using it, as the rockets have an unpredictable spread
  • Against mobs, try to clump them together and fire at their feet to deal massive concentrated splash damage

Disadvantages

  • Slow reload speed
  • Bad at long range
  • Risky to use in tight areas

How to Get the BADABOOM

The Badaboom is dropped by King Mong, which is a named bullymong that you can find in Eridium Blight. This area becomes accessible near the end of the base game’s storyline, and he isn’t tied to any quest.

The unfortunate part is that he’s not guaranteed to spawn all the time, so you’ll have to sweep the Eridium Blight and reload if he doesn’t show up.

Best Farming Method

  1. Fast travel to the Arid Nexus Boneyard
    • Immediately move to the Eridium Blight entrance, which is just to the side
    • Cross the bridge
  2. Check for King Mong
    • King Mong should be somewhere just outside the end of the bridge
    • He’s usually already visible before you fully cross it
  3. If King Mong doesn’t spawn
    • Save and quit to the main menu
    • Continue the game and cross the bridge again
    • Repeat until you see him
  4. If King Mong spawns
    • Kill him
  5. No Badaboom drop?
    • Reload the game again until he respawns
  6. Badaboom dropped
    • Congratulations!
    • You can keep farming for other variants too

Best Prefix for the BADABOOM

The Badaboom is a simple weapon, so any of these prefixes will work well:

  • Rappid: Increased fire rate.
  • Big: Increased damage.

For people using it specifically for rocket jumping, these are the ideal prefixes:

  • Roket Pawket: Increased magazine size, letting you get more jumps out of each reload.
  • fast actons: Faster reload, so you can rebuild momentum ASAP.

Best Builds for the BADABOOM

KRIEG

Krieg is a top user of the Badaboom, but mainly as a way to guarantee he gets a second wind. Due to some of his best builds purposefully putting him in melee range, you can easily delete enemies after you get downed despite the weapon’s poor accuracy. Read this Krieg build.

Axton has builds that take advantage of explosive weapons, and the Badaboom benefits a lot from his passive buffs. Paired with slagging turrets, you can delete mobs and bosses with very little effort. Read this Axton build.

When the BADABOOM is NOT Ideal

  • Long range fights: The Badaboom struggles at long range encounters due to its high spread. While some rockets will still connect, you’re better off using a different weapon to save yourself some time and ammo

Compared to other Weapons

BADABOOM vs NORFLEET

The Norfleet is considered one of the best weapons in the entire game, but as far as rocket launchers go, its single target damage can be outclassed by others in its category, including the Badaboom. If you’re running a build revolving around launchers, you can keep the Badaboom as your boss killer and then whip out the Norfleet for mobs.

BADABOOM vs UNKEMPT HAROLD

The Badaboom and Unkempt Harold are both fantastic explosive weapons that excel at mobbing and bossing. However, the Unkempt Harold is the superior option for sustained combat, especially at longer ranges.

With tanky and mobile bosses, especially in raids, the Badaboom falls off due to its slow reload speed and unreliable spread. In cases like this, you should still keep it on the side for instant second winds.
