What is the Minecraft Easter Egg?

Hidden in Caustic Caverns is one of the most famous Easter Eggs in Borderlands 2, inspired by the game Minecraft. Behind a wall of breakable blocks, you’ll find a secret cave filled with Minecraft-themed blocks and enemies, including Creepers and the rare Badass Creeper.

Defeating these enemies gives you a chance to obtain several Minecraft-themed rewards, including the Longbow sniper rifle, the Blockhead shotgun, and character customization heads. The cave also contains breakable ore blocks that can drop Eridium, making it a fun secret area that’s worth visiting at least once during your playthrough.

How to Find the Minecraft Easter Egg?

Before you can visit this Easter Egg, you’ll need to reach Chapter 9: Bright Lights, Flying City, which unlocks access to Caustic Caverns.

Travel to Caustic Caverns and make your way to the northern part of the map. Look for a wall covered with Minecraft-style blocks and attack it with your melee attack to reveal a hidden cave.

Once inside, you’ll encounter Creepers and other Minecraft-inspired elements. Be prepared, as the Badass Creeper can be a dangerous enemy, especially during your first visit.

TIPS

  • Both the Blockhead and the Longbow can be farmed by leaving and re-entering the area.
  • The enemies and breakable blocks respawn each time you reload the area.
  • If you’re trophy hunting, this area is part of several skin/weapon collection achievements.

What is the LORD OF THE RINGS Easter Egg?

The Lord of the Rings Easter Egg is one of the longest and most unique secrets in Borderlands 2. Inspired by Frodo’s journey to destroy the One Ring, you’ll need to carry Geary’s Unbreakable Gear from Claptrap’s Place all the way to the volcano in Eridium Blight without breaking a specific set of rules.

If completed successfully, Geary will jump into the lava, just like Gollum, causing three Rakk to fly overhead and drop loot chests containing high-quality rewards. Geary also has a chance to drop a character customization head if defeated instead. This Easter Egg is a fun reference to The Lord of the Rings and rewards players willing to complete the journey.

How to Find the LORD OF THE RING Easter Egg?

This Easter Egg is only available in True Vault Hunter Mode or Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode after you have unlocked Eridium Blight. Begin by traveling to Claptrap’s Place in Windshear Waste and pick up Geary’s Unbreakable Gear from the fireplace.

From there, travel all the way to the top of the volcano in Eridium Blight without using a vehicle, fast traveling, quitting the game, or dying. Once you reach Geary, let him hit you once without killing him. If you’ve completed the journey correctly, he’ll jump into the lava and three Rakk will appear, each dropping a loot chest.

TIPS

  • Do not equip a spike or nova shield, as it can accidentally kill Geary before the event is completed.
  • If Geary doesn’t jump into the lava after hitting you once, one of the requirements wasn’t met and you’ll need to start over.
  • You must choose between the loot chests and Geary’s character customization head, as he cannot both jump into the lava and be killed during the same run.

Dark Souls

What is the DARK SOULS Easter Egg?

Hidden deep within Caustic Caverns is a secret island inspired by Dark Souls. The area features a lonely bonfire with a sword stuck in the ground, a mysterious NPC named Solitaire (a reference to Solaire of Astora) and ghostly spirits that occasionally appear around the campfire.

Reaching the island also unlocks the hidden “I Bet I Can Make It” challenge, rewarding 5 Badass Rank. While there isn’t any unique loot to collect, it’s still fun and worth visiting.

How to Find the DARK SOULS Easter Egg?

This Easter Egg can only be accessed after reaching Chapter 9: Bright Lights, Flying City, as this unlocks Caustic Caverns.

Travel to the eastern side of Caustic Caverns, near the giant Crystalisk Blue during the Safe and Sound mission. From there, you’ll need to cross the corrosive swamp to reach a small hidden island. Since you can’t long jump over the acid, make sure you have enough Health and Shields to survive the crossing.

Dark Souls Island

Once you reach the island, you’ll find Solitaire sitting beside a bonfire. Stay for a moment and you’ll occasionally see ghostly knights appear around the fire, completing the Dark Souls reference.

TIPS

  • Jump as much as possible while crossing the toxic swamp
  • I recommend to have equipped a shield that is immune to corrive to cross the swamp

What is the Game of Thrones Easter Egg?

The Game of Thrones Easter Egg is a side quest called Winter is a Bloody Business, featuring several references to the popular TV series and novels. During the quest, you’ll face King Joffrey, his guards Molehill and Canine (references to The Mountain and The Hound) and eventually confront the young king himself.

After defeating his guards, you’ll be instructed to repeatedly slap Joffrey instead of killing him immediately, recreating one of the series’ most memorable moments. Completing the quest rewards you with experience, a pistol, and plenty of humorous dialogue for Game of Thrones fans.

How to Find the Game of Thrones Easter Egg?

This Easter Egg requires the Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep DLC. Before it becomes available, you’ll also need to complete the Dwarven Allies quest.

Once you’ve met the requirements, travel to Flamerock Refuge and accept the Winter is a Bloody Business side quest from Roland. The quest will lead you to Hatred’s Shadow, where you’ll encounter King Joffrey and complete the Game of Thrones reference.

TIPS

  • Don’t rush through the dialogue, as it contains several references to characters and events from the series.
  • Make sure to slap Joffrey when prompted, as it’s the highlight of the Easter Egg.
  • If you’re exploring the DLC for the first time, pick up this quest as soon as it becomes available since it’s located along the main progression path.
